Calm Waters, Steady Bites: What’s Hitting This Week on Lanier
Lake Lanier Islands Park - Hall, GA
Fishing on Lake Lanier has been consistent this week, with early mornings and late afternoons delivering the best action. Striped bass are still the highlight, holding around 30 to 60 feet deep near creek mouths and humps. Downlining blueback herring has been the most productive technique, especially around main lake points and submerged timber. Be ready for a strong pull—many of the stripers being caught are in the 8–15 lb range.
Spotted bass are also active, particularly along rocky points and brush piles in 20–30 feet of water. Drop shot rigs with finesse worms in natural colors are getting reliable strikes. Anglers fishing vertically near standing timber have had luck during midday lulls, especially with electronics dialed in.
Crappie fishing has slowed slightly with the heat, but nighttime dock lights continue to produce. Use small jigs or minnows on ultralight gear for the best results. Catfish are biting well on cut bait near creek channels and deeper coves—target them during the early morning or right after sunset for more consistent action.
Lake conditions remain stable with good water clarity and surface temperatures ranging from 82–86°F. As we move deeper into summer, focus on deeper water and transition zones. The bite’s there—you just have to be patient, precise, and ready when it hits.
